Indian Contemporary

Contemporary planning with Indian detail — jaali screens, brass, handmade tile, a pooja space designed as part of the home rather than added to a corner. Works particularly well in villas and larger apartments.

Rooms we built, chosen to show what this style looks like in practice. More of them, by room, on the projects pages.

Detail, not decoration

The difference between this and a themed room is restraint: one crafted element per space, properly lit.

Materials that carry this style

  • Kitchen countertops — granite, quartz and solid surface

Granite is natural stone: hard, heat-tolerant, priced by slab, and it needs sealing because it is porous. Quartz is engineered stone: non-porous, colour consistent, stain resistant, and more expensive. Solid surface allows seamless joints and integrated sinks but scratches more easily. For most Bangalore kitchens the real choice is granite or quartz, and it turns on stain tolerance versus budget.

  • Plywood grades — MR vs BWR vs BWP, and where each belongs

Plywood grades describe how well the glue holds up to moisture, not how strong the wood is. MR (moisture resistant) suits dry areas like wardrobes and TV units. BWR (boiling water resistant) handles the damp of a kitchen. BWP (boiling water proof, IS:710 marine grade) belongs under the sink and anywhere water sits. Paying for BWP throughout a bedroom wastes money.
